What is a Body Wrap

Saran Wrap Weight Loss What is a Body Wrap.

Initially, a body wrap was an application of Ace bandages or saran wrap that was tightly wrapped around the body to enable rapid weight loss through vasodilation. Now, a body wrap is much more likely to be a treatment where you're slathered with a body mask made of seaweed and potent botanical ingredients, and depending on the treatment, possibly wrapped afterwards to keep warm. Soon thereafter, the product is rinsed off or removed, and the body wrap usually ends with application of a lotion or followed up with some a maintenance lubricant of some type. This treatment is sometimes also referred to as a body mask or body treatment.

Body Wrap Benefits

Body wraps that use algae and detox treatments help rid the body of toxins through metabolic stimulation. Body wraps using moisturizing rich lotions are hydrating treatments geared towards softening and healing the skin. Body wraps utilizing other ingredients are typically formulated to aide in weight loss.

Body wraps often begin with exfoliation through dry brushing or a salt scrub. You are typically clothed in whatever you will eventually be wrapped in - often plastic of some type, but sometimes towels or sheets. I think the most enjoyable method is when a massage therapist does the body wrap, because they naturally incorporate massage techniques as they apply the product. (An esthetician, on the other hand, is just simply rubbing product on the skin.) Once the product is applied to the skin, you're wrapped to stay warm for usually 15-60 minutes. Often, the therapist will leave the room, but sometimes they will stay and continue the massage, if possible.

When the time is up, you're unwrapped and the body wrap is removed. For this reason, the wraps often take place in wet rooms, equipped with a shower or wet table. Its possible that you may either jump in the shower or the therapist will rinse you off with a handheld shower or a special rinse that feels fantastic. After that, you will dry off, and there's usually an application of lotion of some sort to moisturize your skin.

Cautionary Items

- Don't expect a body wrap to simply be a massage. You can get both treatments - a body wrap and a massage -- or look for signature treatments that include scrub, body wrap, massage, etc...

- If you have extremely sensitive skin, check with your therapist or esthetician before starting any wrap for an extended period of time.

- If you are looking for a fat/weight loss body wrap, these are often not available at your standard spa or salon.

This Winter, Be Cool, Be Smart and Be Warm

Saran Wrap Weight Loss This Winter, Be Cool, Be Smart and Be Warm.

Anybody living in one of the many regions buried under record snow this winter will agree that, for all its beauty, this season can be a real pain. Not only does all that snow mean more work and more trouble getting around, but the frigid temperatures make just staying comfortable a real challenge. And the heating bills... ugh, don't get me started.

While I can't help you get your car unburied, I do have some suggestions to help you keep your home more comfortable and your heating bills down this winter. The good news is you can accomplish a lot with very little expense!

Though it is oft repeated advice you may be tired of hearing, nothing is more important than insulating your house against the chilly invasion of cold air and the wasteful loss of heat. While new attic insulation is something to consider in an older home, it's also a relatively expensive proposition. Of more immediate concern to you (only because it is an inexpensive solution) is to check your windows and doors to see how well they're keeping the heat in and the cold out.

A windy day is the best time to check your windows and doors. Simply close all your windows and then use a candle or stick of incense. Watch the flame or smoke to see if it deviates from vertical. Check along the sides, top and bottom. If you see the flame or smoke being blown inward or sucked towards the windows, mark the spot with a piece of tape so you don't forget where your drafty trouble spots are.

Window insulation is a simple do-it-yourself effort and it is exceedingly affordable. Rubber weather sealing strips are probably the simplest solution to plug gaps in your windows. Simply cut to length, peal the paper to expose the adhesive and then put in place in any gaps. The nice thing about weather strips is that they are subtle and all but invisible once in place, making for a clean insulation solution. On the downside, when time comes to remove the weather stripping, it may peal some paint but there really is no reason to remove weather sealing until it is old, worn and time to replace. As such, any potential damage to paint will be immediately covered again by fresh weather sealant.

Another method for insulating windows that some find surprising is window insulation film. Described by some as saran wrap for windows because that so well describes the solution, the film is applied inside to cover the window frame using double-sided tape, then heated with a hairdrier to shrink the film. What is so surprising is that the thin film plastic shrink material does a very good job of weather proofing a window, blocking drafts and preventing heat from escaping. A bit more expensive than rubber weather sealing strips and requiring a bit more work to put in place, window insulating film is a great way to cover a broad problem area to keep your home toasty and warm. The downside, the wrap can be a bit of an eyesore, but isn't an issue if hidden behind a curtain.

Speaking of curtains, heavy, layered curtains and drapes can also be employed to cut down on drafts. Though obviously an expensive solution, if you already have them in place they are helping a bit. The addition of weather strips or window insulation film will simply improve the benefits you're getting from those heavy curtains.

While weather sealing strips can be a good solution for the drafty vertical parts of your exterior doors, the big trouble spot here is generally the large gap at the bottom of doors. You've probably seen under door draft guards advertised on television, but there are many kinds of draft guards or "draft snakes" available that will help prevent cold air coming in and warm air from escaping. You can make these yourself using any tubular fabric measured and cut to the width of your door and stuffed with foam pellets mixed with some coarse sand (for weight), dry rice or any small particles that will give it some weight to help it stay in place.

Proper insulation may help you save anywhere from 15-30% in heating costs this winter. You can save more by having the insulation in your attic and exterior walls professionally inspected and replaced if needed, but the money you save there won't be immediate and will be measured over the long term in years. In the meantime, make a conscious effort to control the way you heat your home. That means allowing for a cooler home when you're away at work and only cranking up the heat when you're home. You can also turn your thermostat way down and use an efficient space heater to keep your bedroom warm at night. You'll save money by only heating the parts of your home you are actually using.

It doesn't have to cost a lot to enjoy a more comfortable winter. It just takes a little thought, a quick visit to the hardware store and the tinniest bit of elbow grease to make your home warm, cozy and more energy efficient.

The Healing Crisis

Saran Wrap Weight Loss The Healing Crisis.

A healing crisis may occur when the vital forces within the body build up enough strength to handle detoxification.

A healing crisis manifests when the body is ready. For example:

1. You have caught up on your rest.

2. You have stopped taking drugs/chemicals/alcohol and other nutrients that are not working for you.

3. You replace old and destructive eating patterns with new healthy eating patterns.

4. You have cleansed enough from your system to strengthen the nervous system or blood supply.

Eating fresh raw fruits and vegetables:

1. Improves oxygen utilization

2. Helps burn up waste products in the system

3. Stabilizes the bloods pH and makes it more alkaline. This, in turn, gives the body energy to fight off disease, so that it can detoxify and rebuild (in that order).

Note: Cooked, processed, or pasteurized fruits and vegetables are devoid of enzymes. Heat kills many vitamins. Cooked fruits will make the body more acidic. Disease only survives in acid bodies, so you really need to eat raw foods for optimal health. Consuming three servings EACH DAY of raw fruits and vegetables is the minimum for optimal health.

Hering's law of cure: All cure comes from within the central core of your body first, then moves outward and from the top of your body, down to your feet and in reverse order in which the first symptoms occurred. Working from the head downward, one must clear old thought patterns, attitudes, and feelings and replace them with new healthier thought patterns, attitudes and feelings.

The following symptoms may occur occasionally during a healing crisis. These are a signs that "housecleaning" is occurring:

Fever, swollen limbs/face, headaches, mobilization of mucous, weakness, weight-loss, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and other digestive disorders, pains resurfacing, worsening of existing symptoms, rapid pulse, skin eruptions, and some say they feel like their world is "collapsing".

Yuk. Why would you want to feel like that!? And how do you tell if you are going through a healing crisis or just another bout of disease? Good question....Read on....

The Answer: You can only get better, permanently, by shifting back into time. Therefore, you may have to experience some uncomfortable brief symptoms. You know when you are having a healing crisis because:

1. The crisis usually lasts only one to three days. The symptoms can be so mild that you may not recognize that it is a healing crisis.

2. At the end of the healing crisis you feel much better than before the healing crisis occurred.

3. You are eating all the right things and up until the healing crisis have had a good attitude.

4. You know you are making changes in your lifestyle and are working on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of your life.

5. You are mentally prepared to get through the healing.

6. You may have just pampered yourself with some kind of bodywork--this sometimes stimulates a healing crisis. This is a good thing.

If you are truly sick, the symptoms above feel awful as time progresses. The symptoms are more than transient and more than mild. In your gut you know you don't feel right. You don't feel that higher plane of health. See a doctor or your favorite healer for advice and drink lots of water.

I remember going through my own healing crisis. Once in college I had a pig tip a fence panel on top of my foot, breaking my big toe. I could not walk on it for more than a week and boy was it black and blue.

During one healing crisis 16 years after that incident, the same toe turned black and blue. I had not done anything to it and it didn't hurt at all. It was so strange. The bruise went away in three days. I recognized it as a healing crisis because I had just worked through other dis-eases. I was studying to be a naturopath at the time and had made a list of all the physical disturbances and diseases I had experienced in my life. I reviewed some of the other symptoms that had come up in the last 60 days and working backwards from the most recent diseases backward, the toe incident was in that time frame of healing.

As healing crisis symptoms come up (if they do), they will last just a fraction of the time of the original disease and not be as severe. Chemicals and drugs will come out of the body as well when the body builds sufficient energy and strength to liquefy and throw off catarrh (mucous). I've noticed this may take a couple of years of nutrition and cleansing in the most chronic situation.

Detoxification of chemicals happens in a variety of ways. For example sulfur escapes through the skin, mercury through furuncles (boils), ulcers, abscesses, opens sores and hemorrhoidal discharges. Toxic gases find their way out of the body through body odor, furry tongues and in bad breath.

APPLY WHAT YOU'VE LEARNED:

Exercise: In a journal or on a piece of paper think back to your childhood.

1. Write down everything that ever went wrong health-wise.

2. Now organize these in a time line.

3. Write them in the order of most recent to least recent.

4. Now draw little box by each item in the left hand margin.

When you start your healing process, check off the boxes as you experience the symptoms. This exercise teaches you to notice what is going on in your body. Sometimes the symptom will be so mild you may think it is a coincidence. Other symptoms, like swollen lymph nodes, may last longer. This is a wonderful experience and positive reinforcement that you are making progress in your health.

A patient may go through several heeling crises at various time intervals indicating reversal of more than one condition. When your body is ready to heal it will release the toxins. There really is no way to determine exactly when or if a healing crisis will occur. One can never predict which symptoms will present or how severe hey will be.

Ways to work through a healing crisis:

1. Drink lots of water.

2. Treat yourself to a massage or hot bath.

3. Apply a piece of felt soaked with castor oil to the liver area and cover the area with saran wrap. This is called a "castor oil pack" and draws the toxins from the body. Repeat and change daily for 3-5 days.

4. Fast for a day or two.

5. Get a chiropractic adjustment.

6. Pray and do some attitudinal work.

7. Find a support team to ask questions about your healing.

This is a great time to pamper yourself. You deserve it for all your efforts.

Dr. Bernard Jensen says:

"We cannot expect sweet thoughts with a sour stomach. And for this reason, all stress in any organ has an effect on every other aspect of our being. Physical, emotional, mental and spiritual processes are all interconnected and need to be in balance for healing to occur."
